About this sailing yacht
HALLBERG-RASSY 36 MkII – HARAKA – 2000
Extensively upgraded | New sails and rigging | Raymarine electronics | Major engine maintenance | Chichester Marina
THE HALLBERG-RASSY 36 MkII
Designed by Germán Frers and built in Sweden, the Hallberg-Rassy 36 MkII is a highly regarded blue-water cruising yacht. Combining reassuring construction, excellent seakeeping and rewarding sailing performance, she is equally at home coastal cruising or making longer offshore passages. The MkII offers a longer waterline, improved aft accommodation and an integrated bathing platform. Her protected centre cockpit, substantial lead keel, skeg-supported rudder and beautifully finished mahogany interior make her a capable, comfortable cruiser. Hallberg-Rassy's reputation for quality craftsmanship, thoughtful detailing and enduring appeal is evident throughout this popular design.
HARAKA – HULL NO. 467
Haraka is a well-equipped 2000 example, extensively maintained and upgraded under her current ownership since 2023. Considerable investment has gone into sails, rigging, electronics, canvaswork, underwater protection and engine maintenance, blending classic Hallberg-Rassy quality with a modernised inventory.
Used for Solent and Channel cruising, she has been improved with an emphasis on reliability, comfortable short-handed handling and enjoyable performance. UK VAT paid and lying at Chichester Marina, West Sussex.
SAILS AND RIGGING
New Kemp VEKTRON cruising laminate mainsail and furling genoa in 2023, offering excellent shape retention and easy handling. The mainsail uses the in-mast furling system, making reefing straightforward for a couple.
Standing rigging replaced in 2025 and running rigging renewed in 2024.
A custom removable stainless-steel bowsprit was manufactured and fitted in 2024, allowing additional reaching and downwind sails to be flown without compromising the original bow arrangement. A furling Kemp Genoa adds impressive light-wind and reaching performance while remaining convenient to deploy and recover.
NAVIGATION AND INSTRUMENTS
Comprehensive Raymarine navigation equipment includes an eS97 multifunction chartplotter, Quantum radar, AIS, Evolution EV-1 autopilot and i70s multifunction sailing instruments. Together these provide integrated chartplotting, radar, vessel information, sailing data and autopilot control for comfortable passage-making.
ENGINE AND MECHANICAL
Volvo Penta MD22P 57hp diesel, approximately 3,020 hours. Extensive preventative maintenance was completed in 2026, including refurbishment of the engine cooling system and heat exchanger, attention to the raw-water pump, replacement cooling hoses and exhaust elbow. Engine mounts and cambelt were also replaced.
A FeatherStream feathering propeller provides efficient motoring with reduced drag under sail.
CANVASWORK AND DECK
New sprayhood fitted in 2024 and cockpit cushions renewed in 2025, creating a smart, comfortable cockpit. All deck hatch acrylic panels were replaced in 2024, improving appearance and visibility.
The Hallberg-Rassy fixed windscreen and protected centre cockpit make Haraka particularly comfortable in British weather. Her traditional styling and quality deck fittings retain the unmistakable character of the marque.
HULL AND UNDERWATER
The underwater hull received epoxy treatment in 2024, an important investment in long-term protection. A substantial lead bulb keel and skeg-supported rudder contribute to secure, predictable handling.
ACCOMMODATION
Below decks, Haraka has the traditional Hallberg-Rassy mahogany joinery, generous storage and practical sea-going layout. Accommodation includes a comfortable aft cabin, forward cabin, welcoming saloon and dining area, well-equipped galley and dedicated navigation station.
The centre-cockpit layout provides particularly good aft accommodation for a yacht of this length. The interior is well suited to weekends afloat or extended cruising.
Eberspächer diesel warm-air heating, pressurised hot and cold water, galley facilities and a marine toilet with holding tank provide cruising comfort. Toilet sanitation hoses were renewed in 2025.
ELECTRICAL AND CONNECTIVITY
Domestic and engine batteries renewed in 2022. An onboard Wi-Fi distribution system receives and shares marina Wi-Fi around the yacht.
SUMMARY
Haraka's standout features include her 2023 Kemp VEKTRON sails, 2025 standing rigging, renewed running rigging, Raymarine navigation suite, 2024 sprayhood and hatch glazing, custom bowsprit with furling Kemp Genoa, epoxy-treated underwater hull and extensive 2026 engine maintenance.
A beautifully conceived Swedish cruising yacht with substantial recent investment, ideal for a couple seeking comfortable Solent sailing, Channel cruising or longer passages.
